The Grange postgraduate accommodation

A new housing development at East Grange, St Andrews, has been built for the University. Twenty-two houses and apartments are now ready for University postgraduates.

The Grange will provide 61 houses and apartments for students and staff, and their families.

Utilities are not included in the cost. The tenant is responsible for the following costs:

  • gas
  • electricity
  • telephone line and internet access.

Properties at The Grange have been built with high energy efficiency and have solar panels, minimising bills.

Once tenants have chosen service providers, they must set up accounts in their own name. When setting up gas and electricity accounts, tenants must use the meter readings provided in the inventory they'll receive with the keys for the property.

Gas and electricity are switched on at the start of the tenancy.

The Grange's houses and apartments are fully furnished, include parking, and offer green spaces, including a play area.

Accommodation options include two and four-bedroom houses and apartments.

Location

On the south side of St Andrews, The Grange development is around 25 minutes' walk from the centre of town. It is also close to the East Sands beach and the Gatty Marine Laboratory.

The properties are managed by Property Services.

What is The Grange like?

The Grange is designed to offer affordable housing with a 'University village' feel to enhance the lives of postgraduate students and academics, and their families.

All the houses and apartments have been built to high standards of sustainability, are highly energy efficient, and are fitted with solar panels.

Bedroom

The Grange's houses and apartments have two or four bedrooms.

They are fully furnished and have double beds.

Bedding is not included. You can bring your own duvet, blankets and pillow cases, or order bedding before arriving in St Andrews. Find out more on the bedding information page.

Each property has a landline ready for the tenant to set up a landline telephone or internet.


Television

TVs are provided in each lounge. Check the TV Licensing web page for details on when you need a licence and how to buy one.


Cleaning

You are expected to keep your residence clean and tidy. University staff may carry out regular inspections. Check the Cleaning your student accommodation guide for more information.


Parking

There are parking spaces at The Grange, including some with chargers for electric vehicles. There are also secure bike shelters.

Most students choose to cycle or walk in St Andrews as University buildings and other places in town are not too far away from each other. Learn more about how to travel to and around St Andrews.

To park a car in a University building, you must get a student car parking permit.

Support

The Property Services team are responsible for the services within your accommodation. From 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, these staff can answer questions about your accommodation and help you get help from other parts of the University. They are based at Agnes Blackadder Hall and work closely with colleagues across the University to ensure your time in your accommodation goes smoothly.
