St Andrews Forest

The St Andrews Forest will form a tapestry of woodland and other nature-based projects across the globe, which will reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

The goal of the forest is to sequester 20,000 tonnes of carbon per year, equivalent to the emissions from student semester travel. This will form a core part of the University’s vision to be net zero by 2035.

In addition to this, the Forest will enhance biodiversity, provide additional ecosystem services such as clean air and water and will create teaching leisure and research spaces for people and communities. The project will also in time demonstrate other nature-based solutions – including peatland and marsh restoration and blue carbon projects.

How you can help

The work we do now to plant these forests will help to address one of the existential threats of our time and ensure not only that our University – but also our planet – survives for the next 600 years.
